Privacy
Elsewhere has no account and no server of its own that holds your data. Your trips and saves stay on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud. We never see them.
Effective 5 October 2026.
What Elsewhere keeps, and where
Your saves (the links, posts, screenshots and lists you add), the places found in them, your collections, your trips and their plans, lists, notes, bookings, permits, expenses and attached documents are stored on your device.
If Sync with iCloud is on (it is unless you turn it off in Elsewhere's Settings), they are also kept in your own private iCloud database, provided by Apple, so they appear on your other devices. Only you can read that database; the developer cannot. Documents you attach stay on the device you added them on.
What leaves your device, and why
- Links you share to Elsewhere. To read a post, Elsewhere fetches its public page from the site it's on (for example Instagram, YouTube or TikTok), including the post's caption, pictures and, for some posts, its video. Those sites see an ordinary request from your device. Downloaded videos are deleted once read.
- Place searches. To find a place on the map, its name is searched with Apple Maps. Apple's privacy policy applies to those searches.
- Trip links and codes. When you share a trip as a link or QR code, the trip is written into the link itself, after the “#”. Browsers never send that part to a server, so opening a link on elsewr.in shows the trip without it reaching us.
- Settings file. Elsewhere downloads a small public file from elsewr.in now and then (for example, whether reading posts' pictures is switched on). Nothing about you is sent. The website is hosted by GitHub, whose servers may keep standard logs such as IP addresses.
- Purchases. Elsewhere Pro is bought through Apple. We receive no payment details.
- Feedback. If you choose to send feedback or a file that didn't open, it goes by email, from you, to the address below, with the app version and device model you can see before sending.
- Booking links. “Find stays” and “Tickets & tours” open the partner's website (such as Booking.com or Klook). Elsewhere may earn a commission; it shares nothing about you with them. Their own privacy policies apply on their sites.
What Elsewhere uses on your device
- Photos — only the pictures and videos you choose, to read the places in them. Read on your device.
- Camera — only to scan a trip's QR code.
- Location — only while you allow it, to work out what still fits in your day and to show notes as you arrive somewhere (“Welcome to Lachung”). Your location is never sent anywhere.
- Notifications — reminders for your trips, worked out on your device.
- Apple Intelligence, where your device has it — to read places from text and answer questions about your saves. It runs on your device.
No tracking, no advertising
Elsewhere has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. It doesn't build a profile of you or sell anything about you.
Keeping and deleting
Deleted trips stay in Recently deleted for 30 days, then go for good. Deleting the app removes everything on that device. To remove what's in iCloud, go to Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Elsewhere on your iPhone.
Children
Elsewhere isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with its date.
